The Patriarchal Church complex consisted initially of a metropolitan church, erected between 1654 and 1658 by Prince Constantin ¬erban. It lies on the hill bearing the same name, close to the Unirii Square. The church, built in the BrΓncoveanu style, is one of the largest in the capital: its narthex is 28-meter long and 14.6-meter large. Transformed into a metropolitan cathedral in 1668, in 1925 the church became a patriarchal church. It has been restored on more than one occasion.
Painted on the inside by Dimitrie Belizarie in 1932, the church has preserved the original fresco work only in the niche above the narthex, where one can still see the portraits of Saints Constantine and Helena.
